Two brand new waka ama were officially blessed and launched by the Atafu Tokelau Community Group in the Onepoto Reserve, Porirua on 17 June 2023.

The waka ama initiative is part of ATCG's Wellbeing work, promoting physical exercise and water safety, as well as helping to educate the youth and wider community about the importance of sea-faring to the Tokelauan community.
The vessels have been named Matalele and Kileva. They were made by Moana Nui Canoes based in Whangarei.
